WPF International Coordinating Committee meeting took place in Vienna, Austria, on February 1st, 2014.
Participants of the Committee defined a set of main problems to be considered at the 12th Annual Session of the Rhodes Forum that will be held in September, 2014.
It was decided that the main theme of the forthcoming Forum would be “Ending war, preventing war”, considering 100th Anniversary of the outbreak of WWI and numerous military conflicts raging in different parts of the world today.
In this sense the 12th Rhodes Forum will become a celebration of Mahatma Gandhi and the late WPF Co-Chairman and Co-Founder Jagdish Kapur heritage which means promoting culture of non-violence, spirit of cooperation, peace and justice.
The 12th Forum Steering Committee was formed at the meeting consisting of WPF Founding President Vladimir Yakunin, WPF Co-Chairman Fred Dallmayr, President of the International Movement for a Just World (JUST) Chandra Muzaffar, Special Adviser to President Mohammad Khatami on Dialogue among Civilizations Gholamali Khoshroo and WPF Executive Director Vladimir Kulikov.
In continuation of the Rhodes Forum tradition to present a civilization at every next meeting this year special panel discussion will be devoted to Iran.
It was also decided that the last day of the Rhodes Forum proceedings will be united with the 5th Rhodes Youth Forum taking into account strong mutual interest of the both Fora participants and the need to promote intergenerational dialogue.
Regarding the research activities of the WPF Center in Trento it was proposed to focus on three following directions: Geopolitics, Economy and Humanism.
Finally, a plan for other WPF activities in year 2014 was drafted.
