Raimundo Lopes Matos graduated from Catholic University of Sao Paulo with specialization in Portuguese, Spanish and English (Bachelor of Laws). He gained Master and Ph.D. in communication and semiotics at Catholic University of Sao Paulo and postdoctoral fellow in political history of Latin America at State University of Rio de Janeiro.
He serves as University professor since 1984.
His former positions were a director of the School of Teacher Education Jequie and director of the Department of Humanities and Letters.
He is currently a full professor of Brazilian literature at the State University of Southwest Bahia.
He is coordinator of the research group "Communication and Semiotics: Language and Reading" with the following lines of research: communication and semiotics - language, reading and poetics; production and reading literary texts, etc.
