Director, Slovene Ethnographic Museum

Biography:

Dr. Bojana Rogelj Skafar, director of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum (SEM), is one of many women who occupy management positions in Slovenian cultural institutions.
She is Dr. Sociology, Univ. Sc. ethnologist and art historian.

The SEM has been employed since 1988, initially as a librarian since 1999, as curator of the Department of folk art and art resources.
Since 2005 she is a director of SEM. In 2009, she became a doctor of sociology with a doctoral thesis "Ethnological collection as a medium for the disclosure of national identity and stereotypes."

Her goal is to present folk culture, Slovenian lifestyle and other cultures in an innovative manner, whilst at the same time committing to social change through her choice of themes. She is convinced that a modern museum must be more than just a collection of exhibits, but a centre for the promotion of knowledge and a lively meeting place for different groups of people.
