President, Galilee Institute
Joseph Shevel is a president of Galillee College, Israel and previously held the position of chairman of the Executive Board of the Galillee College in 1994.
Joseph Shevel studied geography and history at the Hebrew University (1966 - 1969). He graduated Urban Economics at the Tel Aviv University, continued to Ph.D. at the New York University (1975 - 1978).
He was the director of the Management Programmes of the college (1987 - 1994).
Between 1978 - 1987 Joseph Shevel was a lecturer at the University of Haifa, Department of Economics and also the director of the Department of Management Studies at the university (ED).
He lectured at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and Bar Ilan University (Israel).
He has been a member of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Social Policy; a member of the Environmental Committee of the Haifa Region; director and coordinator of several joint European - Mediterranean networks in the field of management and economic development.
In 1995 he was appointed to be the Israeli representative of the EU Med Campus Programme and was an active member of the Med Campus Programme.
Joseph Shevel has written many articles and study papers, most of which focus on regional economic development. He has also headed many professional planning teams in implementing regional and urban development plans
