Biography:

Bulat E. Kumekov graduated from the Division of Arabic of the Department of Oriental Studies, Tashkent State University, in 1963.
His candidate of science thesis was “The State of Kipchaks in IX-XI centuries according to Arab Sources” (1970). His doctoral thesis was “Arab Sources on the History of Kipchaks, Kimeks and Kumans” (1994, Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint-Petersburg). He has been a professor since 1996.
Bulat Kumekov is a specialist in the field of Middle Age history of kipchaks, kimeks and kumans; of the nomad civilization; of the source studies by Arab, Persian and Turkic written sources and of the Middle Age Islamic cartography. At present he works in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty and he is a director of the International Research Institute of Kipchak Studies.
He has more than 400 published works.
