Director, the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences - MAE, St. Petersburg
Yuri Chistov is currently director of Museum Kunstkamera and leading researcher at Physical Anthropology Department, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) Russian Academy of Sciences - MAE.
From 1993 to 2001 he served as senior researcher at Physical Anthropology Department of Kunstkamera (until 1992: Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, USSR Academy of Sciences, Leningrad).
He was a participant of many expeditions all over the world, such as Ethnographical expedition to South-East Ethiopia by footsteps MAE expedition of Nicolas Gumilev in 1913 (2008), Ethnographical expedition to Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Q?nghai province of China “Muslims of Chinese Turkestan: Uyghurs of Xinjiang and Salars of Qinghai” (2008), Ethnographical expedition to areas of veps residence – St.Petersburg district and Republic of Karelia (2003), etc.
Since 2003 he is member of the State Examining Board in “Applied informatics in art and humanitarian studies” of the Department of Applied informatics in art and humanitarian studies, Faculty of philology and art of the St.-Petersburg State University.
He is author of numerous publications and university lecture courses (courses and seminars in the Department of anthropology, Durham University, UK; Courses “Mathematics in Biological Sciences - Application in Anthropology”, organized by University of Komotini, Greece in the framework of the EC scheme of SOCRATES; a series of lectures in Tampere University, Finland; a series of lectures in Queen University of Belfast, UK and London Imperial College, etc.)
Since 2009 he is a member of Executive Committee and Treasurer of IUAES (International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences) and since 2008 he is member of Bureau of Historical-Philological Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
