Erik De Vreede, Board Member, International Association for Intercultural Education (IAIE), the Netherlands

After obtaining the diploma of fully qualified teacher for primary education, Erik de Vreede studied from 1957 till 1963 educational sciences at the University of Nijmegen. His main subject was philosophy and theory of Education, minor subjects were cultural psychology and sociology.

Erik de Vreede has been working in teacher education since 1963. He started with eight years in la Republique Democratique du Congo. After two years of teaching in secondary education, he founded and directed a training school for teachers for the first four years of secondary education in Kananga (formerly Luluabourg), an institute for higher vocational education.

From 1974 on Erik de Vreede taught pedagogy in the department of teacher education of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. At this teacher education department he trained teachers for upper secondary education.

Since June 2000, Erik de Vreede is retired and does some volunteer work for the Association of Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE). Also he holds a board membership of the International Association for Intercultural Education (IAIE) and does other small activities.
